Orthopedic Massage
Orthopedic massage is a comprehensive system that involves the manipulation and movement of locomotor soft tissue to eliminate pain and dysfunction. The focus of orthopedic massage is to restore structural balance and to prevent and rehabilitate musculoskeletal dysfunction.
Utilizing James Waslaski's techniques, this is corrective care that incorporates functional assessment, neuromuscular therapy (NMT), neuromuscular re-education, myofascial release (MFR), soft tissue manipulation, scar tissue mobilization, PNF stretching, strengthening and specific client care protocols to reduce and eliminate physical pain and dysfunction. The goal of orthopedic massage is to restore structural balance throughout the body to provide immediate and long term results.
Deep Tissue/Sports Massage
Deep tissue/Sports massage as the name implies utilizes more pressure and techniques such as trigger point therapy and PNF stretching which is in general a more intense, and sometimes uncomfortable massage which can be very effective at relieving chronic muscle pain. This is not a massage you will sleep through. It is a massage that benefits a wide variety of athletes, labor workers and others who are looking for relief from muscle strain and tension, and recovery and from sports training or injuries.

Medical Massage
This is massage that is performed with the intent of improving a medical condition that has been diagnosed by a physician. This is only available with a prescription from a physician. I am able to provide this service to clients that are injured with Auto Insurance and Worker's Compensation claims. The insurance is billed directly after verification of benefits is received.

Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)

Because massage therapy requires person-to-person contact, social distancing is not possible. However, you can ask massage therapists near you if they can offer remote services instead, such as lessons for you and your partner. Massage Day Studio is located in the upstairs of Cram Chiropractic Wellness Center. Massage Therapy is effective at helping achieve good health and wellness. There are a variety of wellness services available at our location in addition to massage therapy and chiropractic care such as acupuncture, and nutritional support.

Therapy

Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.

Hot Stone Therapy
This therapy utilizes hot Basalt stones and sometimes cool Marble stones to create a muscle pampering experience. You have the option of getting the 'Diamond' Stone massage which is a 90 minute relaxing, sensory experience, or adding stones to your regular massage to enhance the muscle relaxing experience and lessen the overall intensity of a deeper tissue massage, with all of the benefits of the deep tissue techniques, ('Rhinestone' massage.) This massage is done by using the stones as an extension of my hands and using them to combine the massage pressure with the penetrating heat of the stones. In an average session, I use 60-80 stones, or more. The 'Diamond' stone massage uses more stones, with hand, feet, face and toe stones used in this relaxing massage. You won't find another therapist that incorporates that many stones into a massage. It makes a difference.

Swedish Massage
This is a general massage for relaxation and stress relief and can be incorporated with hot stone therapy.
Myoskelatal Alignment Therapy
Mobilizing Joints through Muscle Manipulation from Erik Dalton, Ph.D.
The Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques program was developed as a tool to help relieve our nation’s neck/ back pain epidemic. By incorporating muscle-balancing techniques with joint-mobilization maneuvers, manual therapists learn to quickly identify and correct dysfunctional strain patterns before they become pain patterns.
One distinguishing goal that establishes the MAT method apart from other techniques is its dependence on identification and correction of joint fixations. This is accomplished by systematically releasing deep spinal muscles, ligaments and fibrotic joint capsules that torsion and compress spinal joints. In some cases, a bodyworker may apply direct pressure to bones to release fibrotic muscles that create joint blockages, but the intent is always soft-tissue work.
Myokinesthetic Therapy
This is an individualized treatment based on postural assessment which takes from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. Cost is per treatment, not based on length of treatment. Results are often noticed with the first treatment, but typically several treatments can be needed.
The MyoKinesthetic System is only for someone who has a problem: pain, limited range of motion orsomething is not working properly. If clients suffer from pain, or a joint or organ is not working properly, they will have unbalanced postures. Posture is an outward expression of the nervous system. By targeting the nervous system specifically, you have an impact on the entire body.
This technique balances posture by working on the problem areas and not worrying about the compensations. When posture is balanced, range of motion will increase. When range of motion is restored, pain disappears. Posture, range of motion, pain: they go hand-in-hand-in-hand.
The technique itself uses stretching or contraction of the muscles with a stimulation. Although the use of stretching initially causes some to think they may have seen something similar before this technique is not borrowed from anything else.
What makes this technique unique is not in how you stimulate the muscles. (You can put a stimulation into a muscle any way you want.) The true power of this technique is the combination of muscles you work on in the session. The key is to stimulate all the muscles along one nerve pathway. When I make nerve endings in each muscle along one nerve pathway fire, the 'change' information is sent immediately to the brain when the client stands up. The brain receives this information and instantly makes changes in posture. Here's the key point: Muscles that weren't even touched will contract or relax based on the brain doing its job of making compensations to the information it is given. There is no limit in what can be accomplished in helping people if you can balance their nervous system.

How Do You Find the Right Massage Therapist?

Some people may view massage therapy and other forms of bodywork as a luxury, but because they’re beneficial to almost anyone, we believe these wellness practices should be accessible to anyone. Bodywork practices help relieve tension and stress and offer a range of health benefits. You may have a specific injury that massage can help soothe, or you might simply want to try a new method of stress release and relaxation. Whatever your reason for choosing massage, we can help connect you with the right massage therapist or practitioner.

Find the Right Massage Therapist and Technique for Your Needs

Massage therapy is included under the larger umbrella of bodywork, which is a term that also encompasses therapeutic healing practices such as reiki, acupressure, and reflexology, among others. Practitioners and proponents of these holistic approaches encourage their use, both for the treatment of specific issues and as part of a healthy self-care routine.

Before you begin your search, it may be helpful to ask yourself:

  • Why am I interested in massage therapy/bodywork? (Treatment of an injury, stress release, overall well-being, etc.)
  • What is most important to me in a bodywork practitioner? (Range of approaches, low cost, location, etc.)
  • Is there a certain technique that is best suited to my current needs?
  • Do I prefer the massage therapist to be of a certain gender?
  • Do I plan to treat only a particular issue with bodywork, or do I want to receive bodywork and massage regularly for overall wellness?

If you are a first-time client, it can be helpful to first determine what you’re seeking from massage therapy or other form of bodywork. This will help you discover what specific set of skills you want your massage therapist to have.

Whether you’re seeking massage therapy for injury recovery, stress relief, or as a form of self-care, consider your own comfort. When you’ve determined what your goals for massage therapy or bodywork are, what personal touches would allow you to be the most comfortable during your massage?
